The Fender Telecaster and Esquire sold for around US$179 and $139 respectively in 1951. 1950 EL34's... We can say the same about a Porsche 356 Cabriolet, an exceptional car... The Hagerty price guide pegs the value for such a car in average condition at $244,000, going up to $693,000. When new in 1951, the Porsche 356 cabriolet cost U.S. $4,250 , 1950 ROLEX GOLD WATCH ... Rolex Rare Vintage Semi Bubble Back Oyster Perpetual Coin Edge Bezel Watch $36,247 Well then .... Here's a 1950 MATCHED PAIR of EL34 Double D-D Getters and Brown Bases! Does a Brussels EL84 Double D-D Getter Brown Base hold its value? These audio tubes are effortlessly timeless and an undisputed classic, meaning that there will always be a market for them. Additionally, like all Original (not re-issues) EL34's, the Double DD Getter Brown Base tube has an amazing ability to retain value over the years , despite wear and use, due to the rare earth metals in the tube which are no longer available, anywhere! The sound and the way they transform your amp's musical reproduction into a "real live performance" is astonishing. The XF4 DOUBLE-D-D BRORN BASE version, like many early tubes, has welded plates, along with that thick, dark getter that is a trademark of the valves that rolled out from the BRUSSELS factory. ..."The Mullard BRUSSELS M.B.L.E.factory EL34, compared to the other Mullard production tubes I've heard, has a real magic. The music flows with more ease - a naturalness that is hard to describe, but the sound that is reproduced is cut from the same cloth in a grain-free way that makes me forget that I'm listening to a stereo or musical instrument amplifier."... ..."The Brussels Belgium factory "sound", for whatever reason, has always been on the darker scale than neutrality. Perhaps there is some secret mojo in the cathode chemistry or the metal quality, but this sound difference is easily noticeable in comparison to an original Philips EL34 or even any modern EL34."... After 70 years the DELICATE SILKSCREEN which can be understandably flaking and missing and comes off with the slightest handling, which tells you that they are authentic, is NEAR PERFECT! Mullard never would have dreamed that 70 years from creation their tubes would still be JUST AS NEW with strong time-capsule mA emissions. YOUR 2 TUBE CODES: XF4 LOE and XF4 LOE THE MYTH OF Xf: The internet is flooded with myth's about Mullard Xf* codes! I seems whoever has the most stock of one type claims it's the best. Reasons have been that xF4's have crimped or stapled plates, not making them "as strong"! Well, here we have a MATCHED PAIR with Double D-getter-rings, Brown Bases, and WELDED PLATES! , you can see the spot-welds in the photos. The different versions are mostly made up of "single-halo", "double-halo, or "double D-getter ring: EL34's.Just because some"one" happened to have a bad experience with a certain tube they associate their bad experience will ALL of that tubes revision type! I think you must agree that anyone can post on the internet and you can not believe everything you read. Besides, these are NOT made by Mullard which these false-claims you read about are referring to. These are made by MULLARD'S M.B.L.E. EL34 PRODUCTION FACTORY from Brussels, Belgium in the 1950's. With vintage NOS testing tubes , we need to pay attention to the CODES in the glass. These tubes have an L in the acid code identifier. We suggest downloading a copy of the PHILIPS TUBE CODES to fully understand factory origins. L is the CODE for M.B.L.E., Bruxelles, Mullard. Tubes were labelled for OTHER factories back in the golden days for tube making. The tube is NOT a Mullard made tube. This is quite common back then for this practice of re-labelling. For instance you may have seen Siemens & Halske labelling for Telefunken. Or, Sylvania tubes with RCA labels, etc. Also, BROWN bases are a dead giveaway for 1950's production as well as DOUBLE-D-SQUARED-GETTER RINGS. These getter types ended in the late 1950's with a few exceptions into the very early 1960's.
